Diana Becerra to give keynote of Mass History Conference

16th Mass History Conference Announces Keynote Speaker

The Massachusetts History Alliance is pleased to announce that Diana Carolina Sierra Becerra will give the keynote address at the 16th Annual Mass History Conference on June 7, 2021. The conference will be held online.

Dr. Becerra is a public historian who specializes in shared history and collective memory. She has collaborated with Salvadoran and U.S. museums and art galleries as well as global networks of historic sites.

Currently a postdoctoral fellow and lecturer in History and Latin American and Latina/o Studies at Smith College in Northampton, Becerra’s ongoing project is “Putting History in Domestic Workers’ Hands,” in collaboration with colleagues at Smith College and the National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA). In Fall 2020, she will begin a position as assistant professor of history at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Dr. Becerra, who earned her PhD in History and Women’s Studies from the University of Michigan, will speak to the theme of the 16th Mass History Conference, “History: a Massachusetts Community Activity,” and help to contextualize the challenges public historians face in inviting community members to become authorities on their own history.
