Massachusetts History Conference Session Sneak Peak:
UNCEASING ACCESS: RESEARCH AND COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT DURING COVID-19
The shut-down beginning in March 2020 forced libraries and archives to re-think how to best serve their publics. Research travel ground to an immediate halt, and staff shifted to working from their homes; meanwhile, new impulses to respond to, and document, the moment challenged repositories eager to preserve the impacts of the pandemic unfolding in their communities.
Learn how the Lawrence History Center adapted to unprecedented times and continued to carry out its mission “to collect, preserve, share, and animate the history and heritage of Lawrence and its people,” even as the pandemic closed their physical space. By building innovative partnerships with local university and high school faculty and exploring unorthodox methods of archival collecting, the LHC was able to capture community reactions and responses to the pandemic in real time. At the same time, they developed strategies for supporting a new socially-conscious curriculum.
