Mapping Nipmuc Worcester

The 2022 film Pakachoag: Where the River Bends, a documentary about Nipmuc in Worcester, was born out of a collaboration between its main guides, historian Tom Doughton (Nipmuc) and land conservationist Colin Novick. The film created an opportunity for other interested members of The College of the Holy Cross to join the team, which developed an organic and informal process for scripting, recording, and editing the film. The film directly led to the recent acquisition of the Pakachoag village spring (one of the sites featured in the film) to be held by the Quinsigamond Association of People of Nipmuc Heritage and Friends of Worcester. Colin, Tom, and director/editor Sarah Luria will discuss clips that demonstrate the power of mapping this story through film to generate wide community interest and concrete results.
