2022 Mass History Conference
Working Together to Help Our Communities Address the Climate Crisis
Online, 2:30pm-3:30pm, June 7, 2022
What is the role of local historical organizations in our climate emergency? David Glassberg and Christina Pokwatka will facilitate a group discussion that explores this question and introduces paths to action. Presenters will explore ways local historical organizations can develop community conversations about the special places in their communities, identify the sites most at risk from the negative impacts of climate change, and discuss possible solutions. They’ll walk through action steps that can be implemented to protect historic resources, ranging from comprehensive, site-wide drainage to smaller scale measures such as roof drainage system improvements or mechanically addressing low or high relative humidity. Participants will be invited to share their current and future plans in response to the climate crisis.
