Elliott Fabrizio
Welcome aboard for a behind-the-scenes tour of USS Constitution, 225 years old—the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world. USS Constitution played a crucial role in the Barbary Wars and the War of 1812, actively defending sea lanes from 1797 to 1855, and is undefeated in 33 at-sea enemy engagements.
Chief Elliott Fabrizio, an active-duty Sailor stationed aboard USS Constitution, will take you through the ship to areas that you’re not able to visit on the public tour, including the captain’s quarters and the magazine. There, in the deepest part of the ship, you’ll see where gunpowder was made into cartridges and how it was passed from the bottom of the ship up to the guns, then we’ll go through every step in firing a gun and talk the many different types of projectiles that might have been deployed in a battle. We’ll end with a detailed account of the pitched battle in which “Old Ironsides” earned her name.
