Mass Cultural Council is thrilled to celebrate Communications & Community Engagement Manager Carmen Plazas, who has been named to AmplifyLatinX’s 2023 ALX100 list. Carmen and 99 other Massachusetts leaders were honored during an awards reception at the Boston Public Library on September 14.

The ALX100 Awards recognize exceptional Latinx leaders who have demonstrated outstanding excellence and made significant contributions in their respective fields and communities. From unsung heroes to civic leaders to business trailblazers, the list celebrates 100 of the brightest Latinx changemakers from across Massachusetts.

Carmen, who has been a dynamic member of the Agency’s Public Affairs team for almost eight years, also serves as a Director for the Torres Family Foundation. She is originally from Venezuela and came to the U.S. a decade ago. As a former ballet dancer whose childhood was influenced by community-based dance groups, she is dedicated to helping others pursue their dreams in the creative and cultural sector. Guided by a sense of purpose and a heart for service, Carmen strives to shape a brighter and more inclusive future. With every step she takes, Carmen strives to create a world where justice, equality, and artistic expression flourish together.

Mass Cultural Council is pleased to congratulate Carmen on this recognition and applaud five other leaders within the creative and cultural sector who are among the ALX100, including Boston Children’s Chorus Executive Director Andrés Holder, Boston Fashion Week Executive Director Jay Calderin, Project STEP Executive Director Josue Gonzalez, CineFest Latino Boston Founder and Executive Director Sabrina Avilés, and visual artist Silvia López Chavez.
