A quarterly report on our anti-racism work
In October 2021, Mass Cultural Council launched a three-year Racial Equity Plan outlining some of the internal and external steps we will take to support and encourage an anti-racist cultural sector in the Commonwealth. As part of the plan, the Agency has committed to sharing our progress on this work each quarter:
October 2021 – January 2022 Racial Equity Work Highlights
- Created a new Cultural Equity & Access Initiatives Team.
- Shared Racial Equity Plan with members of the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Racial Equity, Civil Rights, and Inclusion and for Philanthropy Massachusetts’ Arts Funders Network via presentations by Executive Director Michael J. Bobbitt.
- Working with BIPOC Outreach Coordinators to connect with cultural community.
- Developed a voluntary process to collect demographic information from individuals seeking to engage with Mass Cultural Council as grant applicants, contractors, or panelists for the first time.
- Developing a self-identification of BIPOC-centered organizations.
- Began a review of operational policies to ensure equitable practices are employed throughout all Agency programs.
