Bobbitt has been invested into the College of Fellows of the American Theatre. Bobbitt’s investiture took place during a ceremony held on April 15 at The National Press Club at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

Investiture into the College is one of the highest honors bestowed on educators and professionals within the American theater community. The College is an autonomous, nonprofit organization of over 140 members convening its annual meeting and investiture of new Fellows annually under the auspices of the Kennedy Center’s Education Department.

Three members of the organization’s Board of Directors, Dr. Gail Humphries, Benny Sato Ambush, and Caleen Jennings nominated Bobbitt in recognition of his work as a playwright, director, choreographer, educator, and arts leader. With his investiture he joins an illustrious ensemble of theater professionals and educators who have made significant and lasting contributions to the arts both nationally and internationally.

To date, as Executive Director Michael Bobbitt has led Mass Cultural Council through the development and implementation of its first-ever Racial Equity Plan, worked with staff, Council Members, and cultural sector advocates to secure and distribute a historic $60.1M in state pandemic relief funding, and overseen the process of drafting and adoption of the Agency’s FY24-FY26 strategic plan, which will take effect July 1. He was appointed as the Agency’s Executive Director in February 2021.

Congratulations to Michael on this most recent recognition!
