In response to Open Door Arts’ 2022 report, Towards a Culture of Access, Mass Cultural Council is embarking on the development of a Disability Equity Plan to increase opportunities for people who are d/Deaf or Disabled. Much like our Racial Equity Plan, we view this work as continuing our commitment to furthering accessibility and making equitable investments that support all creative and cultural sector stakeholders in Massachusetts.

We need your help to ensure our work is comprehensive, inclusive, and effective. Please complete a cultural organization or individual survey (details below).

The Agency is working with consulting partners, Open Door Arts and Art-Reach to evaluate current Agency systems and recommend steps forward to advance accessibility practices at cultural facilities throughout the Commonwealth.

Mass Cultural Council and its partners seek to grow current programming and invest in the resources that will support the thousands of cultural organizations across the state. The Disability Equity Plan will establish goals and shape the Agency’s equity initiatives for the coming years.

As part of the planning process, our consulting partners will be actively seeking input from cultural organizations, and the participation of the d/Deaf and Disability communities who are essential to shaping a plan that truly addresses their needs.

  • Cultural organizations that are NOT UP Designated – complete the Open Door Arts survey by May 10.
  • Individuals who are d/Deaf or Disabled – complete the Open Door Arts that opens on May 16 and closes May 30.
