The Dartmouth Historical Commission (DHC) monthly meetings are open to the public. Meetings are the first Monday of every month at 6:30 pm in Room 308 at Town Hall.
The DHC is responsible for the preservation, protection and development of the town’s historical or archaeological assets and for historic preservation planning for Dartmouth under Chapter 40, Section 8D of the Massachusetts General Laws and Section 3-13 of the Town’s General By-Laws.
The DHC conducts research for places of historic value, cooperates with the state archaeologist in conducting such researches or other surveys, and coordinates the activities of unofficial bodies organized for similar purposes. For the purpose of protecting and preserving such places, it may make such recommendations as it deems necessary to the Select Board and subject to the approval of the Select Board, to the Massachusetts Historical Commission, that any such place be certified as an historic or archaeological landmark.
The DHC is also responsible for public outreach, education and advocacy concerning Dartmouth’s historic resources that are important to preserve.
Any information received by the DHC with respect to the location of sites and specimens, as defined in section 26B of Chapter 9, shall not be public record.
