Established by Congress in 1996, Essex Heritage develops public/private partnerships that support heritage organizations, sites, and municipal entities in the 34 communities of Essex County by bringing together organizations, respecting and sustaining regional resources, and working to make those resources relevant and engaging to residents and visitors. Additionally, Essex Heritage preserves and promotes Bakers Island Light Station in Salem Harbor, a 200-year-old lighthouse with several outbuildings, through day trips, overnights, special events, and educational trips.
