Historic Newton operates two historic house museums in Newton, Massachusetts. The Jackson Homestead was built by Timothy Jackson in 1809 and remained in the Jackson family until it was gifted to the city of Newton in 1949. The Jackson Homestead was a stop in the underground railroad, and the building holds the city’s archival and artifact collection. The Durant-Kenrick House and Grounds is a house museum that tells the story of Newton through over three centuries. The Durant, Kenrick, and Dewing families all occupied the house at key point in American history. The c. 1734 house museum invited guests to explore daily life for Newtonians across 300 years.
