Founded in Deerfield, Massachusetts in 1870 as the first historical society in Western Massachusetts, the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association is a vibrant regional organization that oversees Memorial Hall Museum and Library, Deerfield Teachers’ Center, Indian House Children’s Museum, and community outreach projects. Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association preserves and interprets the diverse histories of the Connecticut and Deerfield River Valleys, with emphasis on “old Hampshire County,” and present-day Franklin and Hampshire Counties. With a collection begun in 1797, Memorial Hall Museum preserves and exhibits local and regional cultural artifacts throughout 19 unique galleries.
