Sutton Historical Society is a non-profit organization, established to promote research and learning in the History of Sutton, Massachusetts; to acquire, protect and preserve property, both real and personal, having historical significance; and to promote the celebration of patriotic and historic anniversaries. We offer regularlty scheduled public events, which are usually free and open to all, including talks, tours and exhibitions.
We care for three historic buildings in Sutton: The General Rufus Putnam Hall; The M.M. Sherman Blacksmith Shop; and the Eight Lots School House.
We are currently undertaking an ambitious project to create biographies of our Revolutionary War soldiers, and are about to begin digitization of our extensive photograph collection. We hold archives related to local families, and the town’s history which are available to consult on request.
